French Culture Awareness #6: la crème de marrons !

La crème de marrons --or chestnuts cream-- is something we really like in France but younger people don't really use it in recipes as it's more an ingredient grandmothers used to bake with!


I have a family recipe (from my grandmother actually!) for a chestnut iced bûche we have every Christmas. It's delicious but really really heavy and you won't move for a while once you've had some!!


We also really like chestnuts in general and eat them as part of the Christmas meal or just in autumn or winter by the fire.


I had a tin of chestnuts cream in my cupboard and decided to use it in a cake so here's the recipe (in French!) 😁


Le gâteau Ardéchois


Ingredients pour 4 personnes:


  • 2 œufs

  • 100gr de farine

  • 100gr de sucre

  • 100gr de beurre

  • 1 cuillère à soupe de levure chimique

  • 1 pincée de sel

  • 200gr de crème de marrons

  • 2 cuillères à soupe de rhum (et 3 autres à boire ! 😜)


Preparation:

Dans un bol, mélangez les œufs et le sucre. Ajoutez la farine, la levure et le sel et mélangez. Ajoutez le beurre mou et la crème de marrons avec le rhum. Versez le tout dans un moule et faites cuire 40mn au four à 150°c. Servez une fois refroidi.
